‘Violent gardening’ in the park!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday to help with the slope clearing, now christened ‘violent gardening’ thanks to Irina.  What a massive difference it’s made!  Special thanks to PC Simon Humphry for coming along on his day off with his sons, well equipped for the job in hand, and Irina for her diligent work on the bank.

Before and after shots:

Some action shots:

Not only have we created a clear view from the top to the ballcourt and out across Cotham, but we also cleared around 30 needles from the area behind the bench that had been a hidden den for drug abusers and dealers to lurk.  Not any more…

Some of the needles recovered (and now properly disposed of).  Opening up the ‘dealers’ bench will hopefully make it much less attractive to drug abusers.

Our next workday will focus on the area under the trees between the pavement and the ballcourt, where we’ll be planting bulbs and wild edibles to make a woodland garden.  If you have any shade-tolerant native plants that you’d like to donate, we’d be very grateful for them.
