Fancy getting out in the sunshine to make Montpelier look even more beautiful?
We’re moving this month’s workday so we can join in with Montpelier Park Group‘s efforts to create a clear view between the playground and the shiny new ballcourt. Come to Montpelier Park on Saturday 15th October from 11am to join a crew of locals ready to make a massive difference to our local green space.
They’ll be cutting back the scrub on the slope, so you can watch the basketball action from the top. By opening that space up, it will not only make the park feel bigger, but it could even help the park group get funding for a proper spectator seating area. Bring gloves, secateurs and bowsaws, if you have them.
We’re also having our Autumn planning meeting on Wed 5 October, 8pm at 53 Ashley Road. If you have an idea for us to work on over the winter, or plan for next spring, or if you’d just like to see what we’re up to, come along and join in.
Cheers,
The Urban Greening team
Brief notes from our meeting on 5/10/11:
- Alter workday from regular first Saturday of month to variety of times to let more people join us
- Focus planters on easy-grow plants to crowd out weeds and reduce management needs (eg courgettes)
- New community garden space to be planted up in next month or so with low-maintenance woodland scheme; door-knocking on St Andrews Road to encourage neighbour involvement
- Awaiting outcome of Bristol Green Capital grant application for tree and planter projects
- Picton Square being surveyed for possible tree pit, using S106 money from new Colston’s Girls School development.
- Councillor Jon Rogers outlined more flexible methods for using planters to manage traffic and parking; possible funding for this available from Neighbourhood Partnership if resident consultation and rough plans can be sorted out.
Next event is Clearing Day on 15/10/11. No cakes/plant sale to allow focus on clearing work.
