The Ashley councillor Jon Rogers has sent out the email below asking for volunteers to help guide the next stage of the improvements to Albany Green. Could you be one of the locals who can help make the best use of the £48,000 allocated to the space? If you think you might be interested, please email Jon on jon.rogers@bristol.gov.uk.
“Dear Resident
Please excuse this impersonal email, but I understand that you might have an interest in Albany Green, Montpelier. Your feedback would be much appreciated.
Waliur Rahman and I were approached by Lara Ellender to see if together we could progress the work done a few years ago to improve the park. We met on Friday night and agreed that we should see what level of interest there is currently in the community.
Looking back through my case work files, and our resident survery responses there are mixed resident views about Albany Green and the adjacent streets. We would be grateful if you could help with some feedback to us…
(1) Are you personally interested in the future of Albany Green?
(2) Would you be interested in attending a resident meeting one evening about Albany Green?
(3) Would you be interested in helping us arrange such a meeting, if the interest is there?
Other issues raised have been the state of the play equipment, broken glass, tagging, vans blocking view of park, cars driving too fast, anti-social behaviour, use of the Albany Centre, parking on pavements, lack of parking, communal bins, etc, etc
(4) Do you have any thoughts on these or associated issues at this stage? A “Reply to all” email will inform all three of us.
What we will need is four or five local residents to help get things moving! The Council has indicated that there is still £48,000 available and earmarked to progress plans for Albany Green, and additionally we can look for funding from grants, other council budgets, S106 funds, Parks and Green Space strategy, local fund raising and the Neighbourhood Partnership. Council officers will help us, but decisions on ”what is needed” and the push to “make it happen” will need to come from the community.
Please let me know if you do not want emails from me.
Best wishes
Jon”
Further to our email [above], Lara, Waliur and I are arranging a public meeting this Friday 25th March at 6pm-7:30pm to discuss options and make sure that we have identified ideas and concerns. The meeting will be in the coffee bar at the Salvation Army Citadel on Ashley Road.
Hope you might be able to join us, but if not we will keep you informed and involved.
