We heard today that Montpelier Park Group has successfully won a grant of £50,000 from SITA Trust to redevelop the ball court area of the Park.
This will create a level pitch, timed lighting and goal/basket units for football, basketball and cricket, as well as an electric hook-up to allow community markets to use the space. If possible, the work will run off the end of the lottery project to the rear, to minimise disturbance to users and wildlife, and would therefore be ready by the summer.
The conservation charity, BTCV, ran a very well attended workday in the Park yesterday, and they will return on Saturday to complete the community planting beds in the top corner. If you can spare some time on Saturday, come along and help build your park. A further workday is planned for Saturday 4th December to plant up the space.
Unfortunately our bid for spectator seating in between the playground and ball court was rejected by Biffaward; we will continue to try to find the £40k to fund this, but in the meantime we will organise a community clearing session to cut back the undergrowth so the view between the two is clearer. We’re aiming to submit a further lottery bid for the skateable space at the rear of the ball court in January.
fab!
What good news. We used to take part in quite a few Montpelier action group activities but we never seem to get emails about what is going on anymore. I still paint out the tags on the Mont and Vickerage (an old initiative from about 5 years ago).
More than happy to help cut undergrowth etc

Hi Sean and Elizabeth!
I’m not sure if Montpelier Action Group are still active as the ning website seems to have been down for a wee while. I can put you on the park group email list if you like, and there are Transition Montpelier and Urban Greening mailing lists you can join on here – just click the links to the right in the ‘our mailing lists: get involved!’ box.
cheers,
Shiona
