1. Welcome and who we are
Purpose of admin group and Transition Montpelier quickly shared as per the ‘who we are’ page on the site:

http://www.transitionmontpelier.org.uk/blog/about/

2. Group and project updates

Energy
Offer free home energy audits by trained volunteers to anyone
Busy working on Bristol Green Doors Project
Looking to re-focus on energy audits over Autumn/Winter 2010
12 members of energy group – 7 of which supported Bristol Green Doors project with sponsorship, networking, organisation stuff, delivery, PR

Bristol Green Doors
Great success for first year
2,500 house visits
approx 50 houses open
nearly all householders will do it in 2011
feeling of a good ‘arrival/launch’
CIC and related organisation stuff set up
Lessons Learnt workshop done and report will come soon
clear feedback indicating a ‘thirst’ for this sort of project
need to keep attracting supporters and new people
need to make it more viable financially – team worked amazingly hard, can’t be expected to do it entirely for free again!

Urban Greening group
Quiet over the summer (not surprisingly)
Next meeting 14/10/10 in Fairfield Resource Centre
Station path
produced lots of vegetables, which were used
broke people’s barriers about what they could and couldn’t eat in public places

Picton Square
Planters in, become successful wildlife habitats!
Planters encouraged local businesses to move bins off square and onto street (used to dominate square with rubbish)
Meetings with refuse management council team
Planters cost money to buy though – some remuneration still required
Next steps
Encourage businesses to do more recycling/share waste management
A general move into waste reduction/management (an emergent streets group?)
Great example of St. Pauls project removing waste from street

Fairfield area
Gone a bit quiet – people busy – will be discussed at 14/10 meeting
Group offered planting assistance to neighbourhood

Trees
Applying for tree planting grants
Sourced tree planting potential spaces in council areas – awaiting council response
Can’t put fruit trees in council areas – health and safety hazard
Identified 10 locations across Montpelier
Looking into offer of support to offer 3 free fruit trees for households wanting to plant
Jan/Feb best time for tree planting

Montpelier Park (not strictly TT project, but supported by group)
Won £50,000 lottery funding to do park up – work starting very soon
This opens up 2 new community planting areas in park
Potential to include £3.5K funding for related activities
Ideas include tools, tool shed, training, ‘tool library’ for neighbourhood

Albany Park (as Montpelier park, not strictly TT project, but could be supported)
Could to with a boost in energy and support
Would benefit from tidying up and making it more usable
£68K available for improvements
Landscape designer from Montpelier Park assigned to Albany
Needs a boost in energy
To add as potential discussion for Urban greening group meet 14/10
To add as potential topic for next big open meeting
SM to have chat with JD about Albany Green

Beanfeast
Update to come following post-event debrief
Better in the park (as opposed to the street)
Money – TM admin group will see accounts and transactions following their finalisation. More following the de-brief

Streets:
Showing interest and potential for a group
Street planters put in through greening group also with ‘streets’ in mind
Requests from Richmond, York, Fairfield road for support
To add as potential topic for next big open meeting

3. TT Montpelier business organisation
CIC forms rejected owing to a couple of signatures not being tidy enough (to resolve)
Bank account will follow once CIC set up
Re-assess directors to check all still happy
Cash and profit and loss
Following 2009/2010′s enthusiasm, have found some gaps and looking for more control/clarity to avoid mis-understandings and reconcile debts where individuals have put money in
Bristol Green Doors sponsors all local communities with £114 (including us)
CB to find suitable financial management template and apply
CB to set a process to clear understanding of who gets what and why
ALL who have spent cash to send in cash spent so CB knows (JL, SL, DW, SJ) – info to be discussed at next meeting
DW to follow up CIC signature issues with BM

4. Fairfield Resource Centre (KS2): needs one point of contact
Agreed to have one main p.o.c, one back up p.o.c.
Agreed all events have an event organiser who organises events
Main p.o.c to: hold key, manage relationship with KS2, manage ‘event organiser pack’
DW agreed to be p.o.c. but NOT event organiser
DW to create ‘Fairfield event organiser’ pack for event organisers with process and documents required for their events so THEY can do it (incl. process, forms, agreements, insurance docs)
DW to contact KS2 with this information and identify himself as the primary point of contact

5. Next big open meeting:

Owner: CM
Facilitator: AC???
Date: possible 10,17,24 Nov
Proposed areas to suggest attraction (while keeping all ideas open):
Streets (bins, traffic, waste)
Albany Green
Wellbeing
Energy FIT idea
Open table for any idea
EM to send doodle to admin group for date
CM to ask AC if she might facilitate it

6. Awareness raising/films
Looking to try smaller films in easier space to raise awareness, do something a bit less earnest (will do more earnest films too)
Agreed to try a small film in Arts Cafe (free, can provide refreshments)
Donations to support groups (see finance issues above)
Also suggested (‘gleaners and I’)
Owner: EM
Date: 20/10/10 (comprehensive spending review)

EM to find John’s contact
RF to organise with JG
SM to forward Penny’s mail to RF

8. Wood bulk-buying suggestion from site
Agreed – can help with connections but not to organise
DW to contact requester with info about local log supplier
Later note: read Rob Hopkins’ blog post on this topic
EM can publish blog post if requester says he’ll organise

Website and tech stuff
Our lists are open to all so there have been some people sending messages to everyone which we’re trying to avoid in favour of using the website and a regular newsletter…
EM to clean core list
EM researching moving to announcement only/newsletter lists
EM and SM to discuss greening groups needs
EM to research Transition Bristol email account for TT Montpelier
