Urban Greening Autumn Meeting 14 October

Get your diaries out for the Urban Greening’s Autumn meeting on October 14th, 20:00 – 22:00

From Shiona and Sally, organisers behind the Urban Greening Group:

Firstly, many apologies for the lack of updates over the summer.  Things have been going on behind the scenes, but Sally and I have been incredibly busy and have failed miserably at sending out emails or setting up workdays. We hope you’ve all had a lovely summer and are very much looking forward to getting plans going again.

The Autumn meeting will be Thursday October 14, 8-10pm in the old Fairfield School.  Hope you can come!  At the moment, this will be discussing group progress and how to keep momentum going, but please email me if there’s something you’d like to add to the agenda.

  • Under the tender care of the Station Path team, the Path has bloomed and supplied lots of courgettes, lettuce, beans and flowers.
  • The Picton Square planters have been very successful at keeping the industrial bins off the pavement and have remained tagging-free, though the planting is looking a little weary and in need of a workday to tidy them up (coming soon!)
  • Tree planting organisations are now coming back to us, keen to get planting over the winter.
  • And following the successful Lottery bid for Montpelier Park, two more community planting spaces have been released, and funded, in the Park (one of these has been designed as part of the bid, but the other is now open for design suggestions).
  • There’s a  £3k Lottery grant available to support the sustainability of these planting spaces, for example a community shed, a community tool library or family planting days.   All ideas very welcome!
