Montpelier Park wins £50k from National Lottery

July 13th, 2010 · 2 Comments · General

We heard today that Montpelier Park Group has been awarded a grant of £49,999 from the National Lottery Community Spaces fund, which means work on the rear wasteground will finally be able to start in October.

This brings our total awarded to £106,999, and we have two further grant applications in for £50k each that we hope to hear about very soon. These would build the spectator seating linking the playground and ballcourt, and resurface and level the ball court.  Negotiations are underway with the owner of the strip of land in the middle of the Park who has offered to sell it to the Council, bringing the whole of the Park back into public ownership.  Joint pressure from us and the Albany Green Residents Group has also led to BCC releasing £48k to improve Albany Green.

Many, many thanks to everyone who has written letters of support, attended funder’s meetings, supplied advice or helped in any other way – we’re now well on our way to a significantly better Montpelier Park and Albany Green.

Cheers!

Shiona
