Mapping Day: Sunday 21 March

How can we make Montpelier greener?

Can we grow vegetables on the station embankment?  Plant fruit trees along the approach?  Build planters on empty plots?  Match loving gardeners with wistful gardens?  What could you do with that forgotten space you pass each day?

Transition Montpelier are having a Mapping Day, Sunday 21 March, meeting outside Gallifords/Bells Diner at 11 to start.  All are welcome, particularly families, with a variety of free goodies to reward your efforts!

The aim is to identify:

  • existing green space (however small)
  • potential hard space for planters or digging out
  • potential green roof space
  • untended gardens to approach to offer assistance and/or gardenshare

The Council have agreed in principle to stop mowing and weedkilling verges if we identify where we’d like them to, and there’s a variety of funding available to buy community tools, seeds and plants.  We aim to focus our energies on a few areas to demonstrate what’s possible over the next few months, with the goal of creating a trail across Montpelier as we learn what we can do.

If you can display our poster in your window, we’d be very grateful!
