Green Spaces: group summary from TM 10/02

February 12th, 2010 · 2 Comments · General

Thank you to everyone for such a diverse, positive and interesting discussion!

We began by introducing ourselves and sharing what ideas excite us about the idea of a Green Spaces group, which was remarkable in that everyone had different reasons to be excited about it, and that those reasons spanned the immediate to the long term, local to city-wide, specific to strategic.  Our reasons for getting together add up to a very coherent and forceful mix of plans, and coupled with the enthusiasm we each shared for taking ownership for specific tasks means I believe we have started a very interesting group.

Our rough minutes are here, including actions we each volunteered for. Given the considerable overlap with the Food group, we have decided to join forces for the time being to focus on our shared ideas.

Our next meeting will be Thursday 25 February, 7-8pm at 53 Ashley Road.

Many thanks!

Shiona

Two specific areas were identified in the meeting as obvious candidates: the verge opposite the platform at Montpelier Station, and Rosa Parks Lane along the back ofSt Barnabas School’s playing field.

Sounds great. If you can persuade the council to stop mowing verges every two minutes that would be wonderful!

There’s hope for that from the Area Green Space Plan idea, if it ever comes to fruition – I’ve had a brief conversation about it and BCC seem open to the idea. Just need to pin them down now though…
And we know how easy that is, eh?!
